160 Ekiti secondary schools compete in Agbeyewa Cup

No fewer than 160 secondary schools from all 16 local governments in Ekiti state are vying for honours in the second edition of Agbeyewa farms football tournament which began on October 8 and would climax on October 29.

The Chairman, Agbeyewa Farms, Niyi Olajide, has expressed satisfaction for contributing to the growth of the youths, describing it as part of the firm’s corporate social responsibility.

“We are very pleased to bring back the Agbeyewa Cup for a second year, and Nigerians (especially those in Ekiti) can look forward to a rich display of talent and excitement at every game.

“As part of its corporate social responsibility, Agbeyewa Farms continues to invest in initiatives that uplift the communities where it operates.

“Since its establishment in 2021, the company has engaged in numerous community outreach activities, including annual medical programs and end-of-year gifting, further demonstrating its commitment to both youth and societal development,” he said.

 

He highlighted the objectives of the competition, stressing that it is aimed at building character and fostering resilience among the students.

 “The Agbeyewa Cup is about much more than football. It aims to cultivate character, resilience, and a sense of community among the youth. This aligns with our broader vision of empowering the next generation to excel both on and off the field,” he said.

This year’s champions will be awarded a grand prize of N1 million, while the first runner-up will receive N500,000, and the second runner-up N250,000.

In addition, each winner at the local government level will be recognized with a prize of N30,000.

The tournament kicked off with preliminary rounds in each local government, with the winners advancing to the knockout stages and culminating in the highly anticipated round of 16. 

The inaugural edition of the Agbeyewa Cup in 2023 saw Christ School, Ado Ekiti claim victory over Aramoko District Commercial Secondary School.
