The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has inaugurated a national monitoring/surveillance team to check activities of illegal oil bunkering, smuggling, pipelines vandalism, adulteration of petroleum products and other sharp practices in the downstream sector.

Speaking during the inauguration yesterday, the National President of IPMAN, Abubakar Maigandi said the team was formed to identify economic saboteurs who are claiming to be its members.

He also said its members will soon conclude an agreement on lifting of petroleum products from the Dangote refinery.

He said the taskforce is important at a time Nigeria is grappling with excruciating economic crises which the present administration is struggling to contend with.

“This becomes expedient on this exco and indeed all the members of our great association to join hands with the Federal Government of Nigeria to fight the ugly menace of some of the economic sabotage that is fuelling the endemic economic crises that is facing us as a nation.”

He stated that the task force will allow IPMAN, a major player in the downstream sector of the oil industry, to support operations whirlwind established by the federal government through the office of the National Security Adviser to curb smuggling activities.

He said the force would be led by Abdullahi Isa Gusau as National Security Adviser and Prince Nixon Ahanonu, the National Coordinator, urging them to be good ambassadors to IPMAN by ensuring they play by the rules and embrace those virtues of integrity, uprightness, dexterity and unity of purpose.

He added that the team will monitor and report back to security agencies for investigation.

While commending President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his economic reforms aimed at strengthening the fortunes of Nigeria, he urged Nigerians to be patient as the gains of the reforms would revamp the economy.

“We hereby earnestly solicit for the support of the authorities of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) with regards to operational logistics to ensure that this monitoring/surveillance committee becomes successful in this onerous national assignment. We are glad to announce to you that we will soon conclude arrangements with Dangote refinery to lift PMS from the refinery.”

Similarly, we equally solicit for the maximum cooperation of the security agencies across the states to the IPMAN Monitoring/Surveillance Team as their day-to-day operations cannot see the light of the day without their full cooperation and collaboration.”
