Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano jetted out of the state, on Tuesday, amid ongoing crisis rocking the ruling New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).
Daily Trust reports that the Governor had led a reconciliation between the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, and the aggrieved members of his constituency, on Monday evening.
However, despite the reconciliation, the party decided to suspend Bichi alongside Commissioner of Transportation, Muhammad Diggol, over alleged abuse of power and disloyalty to the party.
The governor had waited at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport for about two hours before taking off his flight en route to Abuja.
Our correspondent observed that this happened while Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the party, was in the state.
Kwankwaso had been in meetings with party loyalists, the Speaker House of Assembly, Jibril Falgore, other political appointees and stakeholders from Local Government Areas of the state over unclear issues.
But when asked by journalists to comment on the issues, he said he had nothing to say, referring them to the party chairman.
Daily Trust reports that there have been concerns as a group of party loyalists and some from opposition parties have been clamouring for the “freedom” of Governor Yusuf from the alleged shackles of Kwankwaso, who has been accused of ruling the state by proxy.
The group alleged that Kwankwaso has been in control of the state of affairs, dictating whatever would be done in the administration.
Through radio and social media campaign, the group asked Kwankwaso to allow the governor exercise his powers as Chief Executive of the state.
