The Gombe State Government has approved a minimum wage of N71,451 for employees under the state and local government civil service.

This followed the signing of an agreement between the state government and organised labour in Gombe on Monday.

The signing ceremony was presided over by Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, who chairs the state’s Negotiation Committee, alongside the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Yusuf Aish Bello.

The signing of the agreement followed weeks of negotiations between the government and organised labour.

Dr Jatau reaffirmed Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s commitment to improving the welfare of workers in the state.

Also, the Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved a minimum wage of N77,000 for the lowest-paid workers in the state, with immediate effect.

This was announced following a meeting between the state government, led by Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Mr Tokunbo Talabi, and the leadership of organised labour in Ogun State.

Talabi encouraged the organised private sector to follow suit, noting that their workers are also affected by the current economic realities in the country.

In response, the state NLC Chairman, Comrade Hameed Benco, expressed the organised labour’s satisfaction with the governor’s decision, noting that N77,000 is the highest minimum wage in the country.
