A middle-aged man, Identified as Addulrafiu Afegbua, was reportedly killed by gunmen suspected to be assassins in Edo State.
It was gathered that the incident happened at Awoyemi, Okpella community, Etsako East LGA of the state.
It was further gathered that the deceased was with his wife at home in the night when he received a called inviting him to a place.
The deceased, it was learnt, not suspecting ulterior motive, immediately dashed out of the house to meet his unidentified caller.
It was also learnt that the deceased’s wife made futile efforts to stop him from leaving home to meet his caller at that hour but he didn’t yield to her plea not to leave the house at night.
The deceased, on reaching the location, was reportedly shot at close range on his chest and neck, leading to his death.
Source said the wife, after long waiting without hearing from her husband, started calling his phone line, which went repeatedly unanswered before a search party was launched the next morning.
City & Crime learnt that his dead body was found inside the bush close to where his motorbike was abandoned.
The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident, saying investigation is ongoing.
