Acting Vice Chancellor, Edo State University, Uzairue, Prof. Dawood Egbefo, says no fewer than 314 academic staff of the institution would benefit from a training workshop on modern teaching techniques.
Egbefo disclosed this at Iyamoh, Edo, while flagging off the two training workshop for lecturers of the institution.
According to him, the training is aimed at equipping academic staff with new teaching techniques aimed at instilling academic excellence in the institution.
“”No amount of time spent in college or university will complete the preparation of the teacher for classroom tasks.T eachers must continually be trained and retrained to acquire the requisite knowledge a for the 21st century engagement.”
“The training is to lay a solid foundation for a sound academic session in the institution and to enable us get acquainted with the challenges ahead of us as we prepare for the first semester” he said.
Delivering a lecture tittled “Techniques for Improving Performance of Academic Staff”, Dr Orhare Osumah, listed the techniques of improving performance to include investment in staff training, development mentorship and coaching, creating enabling environment, setting clear goals and expectations.
Others, according to him, are analysis of critical incidents and provision of regular feedback recognition and reward, opportunity for growth and development.
Earlier, the Director of Professional Training and Development of the institution, Dr Anthony Iyoha, said the training was geared towards empowering the academic staff with teaching skills required to have a world class institution.
