I’m aware of security challenges facing FCT — CP Disu

The new FCT Police Commissioner, CP Olatunji Disu, has said he is acutely aware of the security challenges facing the nation’s capital and its environs, though his predecessor, AIG Benneth Igweh, had worked to ensure relative peace in the territory.

Disu, who assumed duty on Monday, while addressing journalists, said he is committed to building upon the groundwork towards enhancing this administration’s efforts to improve the security situation in the FCT.

He said his tenure will be marked by zero-tolerance approach to all forms of crimes and criminality, adding that he will not waver by the command’s commitment to safeguarding both the nation’s capital and the entire FCT community.

“And to those who seek to disrupt the tranquility of the FCT, I send a clear and resolute message that my tenure will be marked by a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of crime and criminality. We will not waver in our commitment to safeguarding our community, ensuring that law enforcement is both effective and respectful of the rights of all citizens,” he stated.

He said the command under his administration is to also strengthen partnerships with local organisations, community leaders and other stakeholders across the FCT.

“Because together, we will foster trust and collaborate on innovative strategies to address the security concerns that affect our residents. Your insights and feedback will be invaluable as we navigate these challenges together, and we will actively encourage feedback from members of the public to refine our approach,” he added.

CP Disu also said the command, under his administration, will enhance community policing initiatives in order to ensure that men and officers are more visible and accessible, fostering a sense of safety and trust among the residents.

He added that intelligence gathering will also be strengthened, which he said is crucial in preemptively addressing the potential threats and criminal activities across the FCT.

“And we will also leverage modern technology to aid our policing efforts, utilising tools such as data analytics and surveillance systems to enhance our operational efficiency and response times,” he said.

The police commissioner assured on the continuous training of men and officers of the command, adding that it will also actively engage the public through town hall meetings and outreach programmes to create a stronger bond between the police and the communities in the territory.
