Police neutralise 3 kidnappers who killed 2 cops

The Delta State Police Command says its operatives have neutralised three suspected kidnappers who killed two mobile policemen in a failed attempt to abduct the wife of a lawmaker in the State House of Assembly.

City & Crime reports that the spokesman of the command, SP Bright Edafe, who disclosed this to newsmen on Sunday in Asaba said the suspects also killed Mr David Imela, the driver to the lawmaker’s wife.

Edafe said the failed attempted abduction of the lawmaker’s wife (name withheld) by the suspects happened on September 2, 2024, at Okoloba Junction, Jakpa Road, Uvwie LGA.

He said the suspects, who were also armed robbers, were killed during a gun duel with operatives of Ebrumede division led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).

The command’s image maker said the commissioner ordered the narrowing of the roads and blockage of all exit points in the locality.

He explained that during the gun duel, the hoodlums immediately abandoned their operational vehicle with registration No. WWR-436-GZ shattered with bullets and escaped with bullet injuries.

Edafe stated that the operatives, armed with exhibit found in the abandoned vehicle, on October 3, 2024, stormed the hideout of the suspects in Agbarho where they again engaged the hoodlums in another shootout.

He said during the operation, three of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries while others fled.

He said the suspects were confirmed dead in a hospital.

Edafe, who said a manhunt was on for the arrest of the fleeing members of the gang, added that four AK-47 rifles and a vehicle were recovered from the suspects.

The command’s spokesman added that the commissioner of police commended the effort and bravery of the DPO and his men displayed during the operation and urged other officers and men of the command to emulate them.
