Ahmed Musa returns, steers Pillars to 2-0 win over Sunshine Stars

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, kicked off his third stint with Kano Pillars with a brace in the ‘Masu gida’s 2-0 win over Sunshine Stars in the Nigeria Premier Football League week 5 match played yesterday at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium Katsina.

It will be recalled that two legends of Pillars, Musa and his bosom friend, Shehu Abdullahi, recently rejoined the club for the 2024/2025 season.

While it is a third stint for Musa having previously played for the Pillars in 2009/2010 and 2021 season, Abdullahi is making his first return to his boyhood club.

The most capped Super Eagles player announced his return for Kano Pillars with the opening goal in the 4th minute.

He then grabbed his brace in the 51st minute as Pillars bounced back from the week 4 loss at Abia Warriors.

In Umuahia, Heartland recorded their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes, Plateau United pipped new boys, Ikorodu City 1-0 in Jos while Rivers United maintained their unbeaten run as they defeated Akwa United 2-1 to go top of the table with 13 points.

Elsewhere, Kwara United inflicted the first defeat of the season on Remo Stars with a slim 1-0 win in Ilorin, just as Rangers overpowered Abia Warriors 1-0 in the ‘oriental derby’ in Enugu.

Meanwhile, former African champions, Enyimba, were leading 3-0 against Katsina United in Aba before power outage in the stadium forced proceedings to a sudden halt in the second half.
