General T.Y. Danjuma ( rtd) has commended the federal government for investing funds for construction of 40 Megawatts kashinbilla hydro power station in Taraba and for allowing his company, the KP Hydro Limited, to run and maintain the power station.
Danjuma gave commendation during the handing over of the 40 Megawatts power to his company the KP Hydro Limited, at Kashinbilla in Takum local government area of the state, at the weekend.
He stated that said the Kashimbila hydro dam is the largest investment of the federal government in Taraba state.
Danjuma thanked the Federal government for the investment, saying the company that has been given the power to run and maintain the operation of the hydro power station belongs to him and he fought for it doggedly.
He said for electricity to be distributed to the entire state, a lot needs to be done.
According to him, power supply lines need to be rewired because the substandard cables which were used can explode if the energy from the Dam is released.
In his address, Governor Agba Kefas said the concession given to KP Hydro Limited is a positive development, expressing confidence that it will enhance power distribution in the state.
Kefas stressed that the event was not just about the transfer of ownership but a significant milestone in the journey towards sustainable energy and economic prosperity.
He said a reliable power supply is essential for everything from the daily life of the citizens to the growth of industries and businesses.
Professor, Joseph Utsey, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, who was represented by the Director of Public Private Partnership, Engr Zaccheaus Akinjogbin, said the dam was conceived to check imminent danger from the collapse of Lake Nyos in Cameroon, adding that the engineering design incorporated 40 megawatts of electricity, among other benefits.
He said the process of the concession began in 2021 and all due process was followed , pointing out that the aim was to provide jobs, lift Nigerians out of poverty, provide health care and improve the general standards of living of Nigerians.
He also thanked the TY Danjuma Foundation for the construction of the Kashimbila airport at no cost to the federal government.
