How APC was saved from N1.5bn garnishee order — Ganduje

National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, yesterday disclosed that there was a garnishee order against the party in the sum of N1.5 billion.

He however, said the party’s national legal adviser, Prof Abdulkareem Abubakar Kana,  played a key role in setting aside the garnishee order against the party.

Ganduje spoke yesterday in Abuja during a ceremony in honour of Prof Kana and Abdul Adamu Fagge, who were conferred with the professional title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

A garnishee order is a court order that allows a creditor to recover debts through third parties, such as the debtor’s employer or bank.

Daily Trust reports that the APC has at different times failed to pay lawyers for their legal services especially after elections. On July 15, 2021, a High Court in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, issued a garnishee order on bank accounts belonging to the APC after it failed to pay more than N30 million professional fees to two lawyers – Louis Akanimo and Fidel Albert – who represented it at the election tribunal in 2015.

Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State who was represented by the deputy national chairman (North), Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, said Prof Kana has saved the APC many times including brokering a settlement in another N92 million judgement against the party.

He said, “Notably, Prof. Kana played a pivotal role in setting aside the garnishee order against our party in the sum of N1.5 billion. His swift and strategic legal interventions saved the party from an immense financial burden, and for that, we remain deeply grateful.  Additionally, his efforts in brokering a settlement in the N92 million judgement against the party are equally commendable.”

Ganduje also said Abdul Adamu Fagge (SAN) has demonstrated remarkable expertise and commitment to the legal profession in Kano State.
