Welder’s apprentice electrocuted in Lagos

An apprentice welder identified simply as Adedeji has died of electrocution at a construction site in Lagos Island.

He was said to have accompanied his elder brother to the site where he was also working as a welder.

City & Crime gathered that the deceased and his elder brother were working at the site of a two-storey building used as a shopping plaza on Nnamdi Azikiwe Street, Lagos Island. 

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, saying that the report was lodged at the Adeniji Adele Police Station on October 1, around 7pm.

He said based on the strength of the report, a team of policemen from the station visited the scene where they met the corpse of the deceased on the first floor with both of his legs burnt completely.

He said preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was flung from the second floor where they were working to the first floor by the electrical current.

“The building where the incident occurred is a two-storey building used as a plaza. It is still under construction.

“The corpse has been deposited at Yaba General Hospital mortuary. Doctors on duty first confirmed him dead before the body was moved to the morgue,” he stated.
