Egyptian varsity wins FASU Games with 82 medals

The American University of Cairo, over the weekend, emerged as the winner of the 11th FASU Games, after amassing 82 medals at the Games held in Lagos.

The Egypt varsity won 48 gold, 28 silver and 8 bronze to finish at the top of the medal table, one of the co-hosts Lagos State University (LASU), finished in second position with 28 gold, 30 silver and 26 bronze while the host University of Lagos (UNILAG) won 25 gold, 33 silver and 40 bronze to finish third.

The University of Ghana, University of Development Services, Benson Idahosa and University of Cafe Coast ended in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh position in the medal table.

University of Zambia, Obafemi Awolowo University, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology and University of Jos finished eight, ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth positions.

University of Mauritius, University of Ilorin, United States International University Africa, University of Ibadan, Makerere University, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University ended on the thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen and nineteenth position respectively.

Osun State University, Lagos State University of Education and Lumiere De Bujumbara finished at the bottom of the medal table.

At the closing ceremony of the 7-day Games, held at LASU, Ojo, UNILAG’s vice-challencor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, appreciated the officials for their dedication to the success of the tournament, commending the athletes for their display of sportsmanship.

“To our athletes, you are the embodiment of hope and inspiration. You have not only competed for medals but have also represented the spirit of unity that is essential in our pursuit of excellence.

“As you return to your universities, carry with you the lessons learned and the bonds forged here,” she said.
