Late arrival of officials of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) at polling units across the state hindered the local government elections, on Saturday.
Despite ANSIEC’s announcement that voting would commence at 8 am and conclude at 4 pm, officials had not arrived at most polling units by 8:50 am.
In Awka, our reporter visited some polling units and observed there were no signs of impending elections.
At Ukwu Orji Government House, police officers were present, but ANSIEC ad-hoc staff had not arrived by 9 am.
Affected polling units included: Aroma Ward Three, Odoagba Ward One,Unizik Junction Polling Unit
- Gov Radda strengthens ties with Niger Republic, attends Kwado’s turbaning
- Anambra holds first LG election in 11 years
In Iyiowa/Odekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area, no ANSIEC ad-hoc staff, security personnel, or electoral materials had arrived as of 9am and only one APGA party agents was present.
The delayed start and apparent lack of voter interest, with many engaging in monthly sanitation and business activities, cast a shadow over the elections.
