NPFL: Nasarawa United, 3SC, 8 others yet to taste victory

After three rounds of matches in the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, former champions Nasarawa United and nine others are yet to win in the new season.

The other clubs that are waiting to pick their first three points are 3SC, Akwa United, Lobi Stars, Abia Warriors, Bendel Insurance, Kwara United, Bayelsa United, Heartland and Ikorodu City.

While Nasarawa United, Lobi Stars, Abia Warriors, Heartland and Ikorodu City have played three matches each, the quintet of 3SC, Bendel Insurance, Kwara United and Bayelsa United have played only two matches.

 One of Nigeria’s oldest clubs, 3SC have drawn their two matches against Nasarawa United and Plateau United, same with Akwa United who drew 0-0 with Lobi Stars and 1-1 with Abia Warriors at home.

On their part, Nasarawa United opened their campaign at home with a 1-1 draw against 3SC, they earned a point on the road at Niger Tornadoes where it ended 0-0 draw but fell 3-4 to El-Kanemi Warriors at home.

Abia Warriors who lost their opening match at home to Remo Stars have drawn two matches against Akwa United and Sunshine Stars, Bendel Insurance drew 0-0 at home with Rivers United and lost 2-1 at Katsina United while Kwara United who had their week 2 fixture with El-Kanemi Warriors postponed, started their campaign with a 1-2 loss at home to Niger Tornadoes and were held to a barren draw in Ilorin by new boys Ikorodu City.

Lobi Stars who are playing under a new management began with a goalless draw against Akwa United, lost 0-1 to Rivers United at home and were edged 2-1 by Enyimba in their rescheduled week 2 match played on Wednesday in Aba.

The two losses suffered by Lobi Stars have landed them in relegation waters as they are presently in 17th position with one point from a possible nine.

18th placed Bayelsa United also lost their first match of the season to Sunshine Stars who hammered them 3-0 in Akure, and when they returned home, they could only force Kano Pillars to a 1-1 draw.

Heartland and Ikorodu City in 19th and 20th position respectively have identical results having drawn one and lost two matches each.

However, week 5 matches which will be held this weekend on Saturday and Sunday are opportunities for the clubs to taste victory.
