The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees in Katsina State has decried the incessant open defecation across the local councils and called for the provision of more toilet facilities in rural communities.
The state president of NULGE, Haruna Kankara, in an interview with newsmen said such move will check further spread of communicable diseases associated with open faeces.
He said the alarming rate of such defecation calls for all stakeholders to collaborate towards addressing the situation.
“UNICEF and some development partners encouraged government to check open defecation through provision of toilet facilities, we in NULGE are ready to partner to reduce such unwanted attitudes,” he said.
He further said hygiene is a fundamental thing to healthy living and that people must realise that proper waste disposal is needed for a healthy community.
