Hardship: FGC Kaduna alumni flag off food bank to support members

The Federal Government College Kaduna Old Students Association (FGCKADOSA), Abuja chapter, has flagged off an initiative, a food bank, to support its needy members with food items to cushion the effects of hardship being experienced in the country.

The food items distributed during the official flag-off of the programme in Abuja at the weekend included bags of rice, beans, chicken, oil, noodles, and garri, among others.

Chairman of the chapter, Hon. Bola Abduroshakin, who unveiled the initiative, stated that the programme is designed to assist less privileged alumni.

He disclosed that over 100 alumni are benefiting from the food bank as well as other programmes on free health insurance through Reliance Health Care Insurance, adding that the plan is to make the initiative a periodic programme that would bring relief and comfort to the alumni community.

While urging leaders and associations to adopt similar initiatives to support their members, families, neighbours and community leaders, the chairman said they should take a leaf from the programme and see how to help one another, rather than placing the entire burden on the government.

The chairman also explained that in the health programme, members can choose hospitals anywhere in the country, fully covered and paid for one full year, with the possibility of renewal by the association.

Also, Former FCCK president, Engineer Gazali Tukur, said the current leadership of the association created the platform to assist less privileged alumni, including hospital arrangements for those who cannot afford medical care, surpassing what was available in the past.
