The Unity Cup tournament, organized by the Kingsley Obiukwu Foundation, concluded with an exhilarating finale as Ukpor town claimed the 2024 title.
This inaugural football tournament brought together 10 communities from Nnewi South, Anambra State, including Ukpor, Unubi, Ezinifite, Amichi, Osumenyi, Akwa-Ihedi, Ebenator, Utuh, Azigbo, and Ekwulumili.
Ukpor Town received the top prize of N700,000, while Unubi Town took home N500,000 as runners-up. Ezinifite Town secured third place and was awarded N300,000. Each of the remaining seven towns received N70,000 as a token of appreciation for their participation.
During a press conference at the event, chief host, Kingsley Obiukwu praised the champions for their resilience and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

He highlighted that every participating community emerged victorious by fostering camaraderie.
Obiukwu emphasized that the tournament’s goal was to create a platform for showcasing talent and promoting unity within the community.
“We celebrate our Champions Ukpor for their show of tenacity and sportsmanship. Everybody who was involved in this tournament is victorious, for maintaining the peace enjoyed throughout the tournament.
“The Kingsley Obiukwu Foundation Unity Cup 2024 was more than just a football tournament; it was a powerful force for unity and collaboration in Nnewi South.
“Through football, the towns came together in a spirit of shared purpose, working together to create a vibrant and harmonious community atmosphere.
“The competition fostered friendships across town lines, strengthened bonds between youth leaders and sports directors, and encouraged a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation,” he said.
