The police in Benue State have quelled a clash between suspected cult groups in Makurdi.
Spokeswoman of the command, SP Catherine Anene, on Tuesday, who disclosed this, said that law enforcement officers intervened to restore calm.
She said, “Hoodlums suspected to be cultists clashed last night but were quickly dispersed once we received the information. The area is calm and under police control.”
She assured the public that the situation was under control and that there was no need for panic.

Two residents, Attah Ede and Uche Nnorom, said that police patrolled throughout the night in the affected areas, including Barracks Road, Ankpa Ward and Wadata axis, between 11pm and 1am when gunshots were heard.
Ede said, “The sound of gunshots or teargas canisters caused alarm, but the police response brought swift order to the situation.”
