Kwara CJ pardons 3 inmates

Three inmates have regained their freedom following the intervention of the Chief Judge (CJ) of Kwara State, Justice Abiodun Ayodele Adebara.

They were pardoned after their cases were reviewed during a visit to the Old Oke Kura and Mandala custodial centres.

Speaking during the occasion, Justice Adebara said the custodial facilities in the state were overcrowded and that it fell within his constitutional rights to perform jail delivery.

He said, “This allows me to look into cases that have stayed long in court, inmates with terminal illness and minor offences which community service can take care of.”

He advised the released inmates to stay off crime and promised to make his visit to custodial centres for jail delivery a continuous exercise.

The state’s Controller of Corrections, Danmairomu Shuaib Ayodeji, on his part, also urged the released inmates to be of good conduct and refuse temptation to go back to crime.
