Tinubu pledges support for victims of Zamfara boat accident, flood

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commiserated with the people and government of Zamfara State over the recent floods in Gummi Local Government Area and the death of over 40 farmers in a boat accident on their way to their farms at the weekend.

Daily Trust reports that an over-loaded boat with 40 passengers capsized and sank in a river in Gummi town.

The boat was collided with an empty oncoming boat and sank in the river with all the passengers on board.

The president, in a statement yesterday by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, promised support for the victims of both incidents and directed emergency agencies to comprehensively assess the two incidents to address the root of the calamity.

President Tinubu also directed response agencies to work with the Zamfara State government to help those affected by the disaster.

Similarly, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has lamented the death of 40 persons in a boat mishap in Gummi LGA of Zamfara State.

Speaker Abbas, in a statement on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, described the mishap as “one too many”.

He also regretted the recent floods that ravaged Gummi LGA, displacing hundreds of people.

The speaker sent his condolences to the people and the government of Zamfara State, particularly in Gummi LGA over the unfortunate incidents.

He called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and relevant agencies to immediately provide relief assistance to the affected people and communities.

Also, Governor Dauda Lawal Zamfara State  has expressed sadness over the boat accident in Gummi LGA.

The governor, in a statement by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, described the mishap as a monumental disaster.

The statement added that the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA) had been directed to promptly begin rescue and recovery operations.
