Kwara seals building over faulty soakaway

The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency has sealed a six-room building on Onikun-Kewu Street in the Adabata area in Ilorin for allegedly violating environmental laws.

The acting General Manager (GM) of the agency, Hajia Idayat Folorunsho Adeola, said that the agency received a complaint that occupants of the house exposed excreta through a defective soakaway.

She said that the act of the occaupants of the building was very dangerous to the health of the inhabitants of the area.

She further said that the agency’s action was to enforce compliance with environmental laws and prevent the community from an epidemic that could resultant from the infraction.

She added that, “As a law enforcement agency, we will not hesitate to take legal action on any individual or premises whose acts constitute environmental nuisance.”

She urged the public to cooperate with environmental health officers while carrying out house-to-house inspection to prevent the outbreak of diseases.
