Markets closed for 7 days over Osun monarch’s death

The Palace of Owa Obokun of Ijesaland in Osun State has declared that all markets across ljesaland shall remain closed for seven days starting from Saturday to mourn the late Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran.

The Odole Owa of ljesaland and Traditional Prime Minister of the Palace, High Chief Adebola Orolugbagbe confirmed the death of the traditional ruler on Friday.

He states that the traditional palace at Okemese would be closed with immediate effect while traditional transition rites continue for the next 90 days.

The late Owa, who was installed in 1982, reigned for 42 years until his demise on Wednesday after a brief illness.

Meanwhile, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has described the death of Oba Aromolaran as a big loss to Yorubaland and the entire Oduduwa race worldwide.

Ooni through his spokesperson, Otunba Moses Olafare said, “Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II was not only a father figure to the people of Ijesaland but also a colossal loss to all the sons and daughters of Oduduwa race globally. He was a pillar of wisdom and guidance, contributing significantly to the unity and development of Yoruba land.

“The profound impacts that the late Owa Obokun had on the people of Ijesaland, Osun State, and the Yoruba nation as a whole can never be overemphasized as he was a visionary leader and custodian of Ijesa’s rich cultural heritage, whose reign was marked by peace, progress, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of his people.

“His Royal Highness, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, was an embodiment of the virtues and values that define our great tradition.

“His leadership, compassion, and commitment to the progress of Ijesa land will be dearly missed. He was a true beacon of hope and a symbol of the unity that binds us as a people.

“While his departure is a great loss to our country, we must also celebrate the rich legacy he has left behind, which will continue to inspire generations to come.

“The House of Oduduwa hereby extends heartfelt sympathy to the royal family, the entire Ijesa community, Osun State Government, Oduduwa race and all those who held the late Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II so dearly to their hearts. May his ancestors receive him with good tidings”.
