Bayelsa Governor’s Cup organisers sanction 4 coaches

The Central Organizing Committee (COC) of the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, known as the ‘Prosperity Cup,’ has taken disciplinary action against four coaches and one team for various misconduct during this year’s event.

In a statement, the COC announced the issuance of one-year suspension letters to the coaches, including Coach Inemo Koffi of Golden Sun Sports Club. Coach Koffi is accused of tarnishing the tournament’s reputation by organizing his team and supporters to protest against the committee and its members, leading to violent demonstrations at the Samson Siasia Stadium with the intent of disrupting a scheduled match.

The statement noted that these actions, which could have incited violence, were only prevented by the timely intervention of security personnel. Additionally, Coach Fekete Agoli of Gbarain FC, Ebi Amula of Agbere FC, and Uche Abule of BMU FC were suspended for issuing threats and attempting to disrupt a match in progress—behavior deemed completely unacceptable by the committee.

Other infractions by the suspended coaches included issuing threats and posting defamatory content on social media in an attempt to discredit the organizers and the tournament. Furthermore, the BMU FC coach was placed on a one-year probation for bringing in footballers from outside the state, undermining the tournament’s goal of developing local talent.

Golden Sun Sports Club also received a warning letter for encouraging players to engage in unruly conduct, including making threats and chanting violent songs with the aim of disrupting future matches and tarnishing the tournament’s reputation.
