Bandits have reportedly killed a Labour Party (LP) ward chairman in Igumale district of Ado Local Government Area in Benue State.

Other witnesses said the deceased alongside others went to assist a widow at her farm and on their way home on motorbikes, the armed invaders barricaded the road. They shot severally at them, killing the party chairman on the spot.

The witnesses also said that the attackers went away with the two motorcycles belonging to the deceased and his peers. The community youths later went to the scene to evacuate the body of the LP ward chairman.

Tersoo Orbunde, LP spokesman in Benue, confirmed the incident to our correspondent in Makurdi.

Orbunde said, “The information we got as a party was that our ward 1 chairman, Igumale in Ado LGA went to his cassava farm and was attacked by armed herders who killed him.

“His people went there and brought his corpse back home and reported the matter to the police. We have sent our party members to visit the family. We are now waiting for the family to announce arrangements for his burial.”

However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Benue Command, SP Catherine Anene, said she was unaware of the incident.
