NTA, CMG launch new Hausa documentary

The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the China Media Group (CMG) have launched a new Hausa documentary programme to be aired on Startimes.

The programme, titled: “Kwadon Baka”, is produced by the China Media Group and the African Languages Programming Centre, in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria and NTA-Star TV Network Limited (Startimes).

Speaking during the launch yesterday, the DG of NTA, Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, said the programme was created to foster cultural relations between Nigeria and China.

He stated that the programme was part of a synergy to promote Asia and African languages, with a greater emphasis on Hausa.

He added that in understanding the dynamics of languages, NTA placed a premium for establishment of three television channels in Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba for the promotion of culture and tradition of the ethnic groups.

A member of CMG’s Hausa Service, Murtala Zhang, said the programme was made in China but broadcast on NTA and would serve as a good beginning for cultural relations between the two countries.

He said Hausa was selected because it was taught in China, a country with more than five universities teaching Hausa Language.

On his part, the Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy and Director of China Cultural Center in Nigeria, Mr Li Xuda, said the programme wouls tell good stories about China and Nigeria through co-production “with the wisdom, knowledge, skill and professionalism of many talents in the film and television industries of our two countries.”
