The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the international community, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun to intervene over allegations that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is plotting to arrest its supporters in Edo State.
At a press conference on Monday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, accused the APC of engaging in sinister tactics following the anticipated defeat of its candidate, Monday Okpehbolo, in the upcoming September 21 governorship election.
Ologunagba claimed that the APC, overwhelmed by its candidate’s poor prospects, has resorted to undermining the electoral process.
According to Ologunagba, the APC has attempted to manipulate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by fraudulently uploading emojis, images of foreigners, and social media pictures as polling and collation agents. This, he alleged, is a ploy to introduce hired thugs to masquerade as official agents, thereby inciting violence on election day.

He also accused the APC, in collusion with compromised security operatives, of terrorising the people of Edo State. This, he said, includes the arrest, harassment, and torture of residents, particularly youths, to instil fear and prevent them from voting.
He said the party has demanded the immediate release of all detained individuals and called for urgent action from the IGP to address the situation.
The party also urged President Tinubu to ensure a transparent and fair election process, asserting that the international community, including the European Union, is closely monitoring the unfolding events.
