Ogun: 17-year-old girl raped to death on father’s farm

A 17-year-old secondary school student, Habeebah Akinsanya, has been reportedly raped and killed on her father’s farmland in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident occured over the weekend at Mile 6, a community that is few metres away from Ogun State Television, Abeokuta.
Her father, Akinsanya Aremu, a senior officer with So Safe Corps, a government-owned security outfit, had reported at Kemta Police Station that her daughter was kidnapped while manning a POS stand on behalf of her sister.
The father reportedly paid a ransom of N1,000,000, to the alleged kidnappers, yet, the young girl was murdered.
Her lifeless body was recovered from the father’s farm on Sunday.
The Divisional Police Officer of Kemta Division, Abeokuta, CSP Olawale Famobuwa, confirmed the incident on Monday.
Famobuwa said that “the father of the deceased reported to the police station on Friday at about 9:30pm that her daughter, Habeebah who was helping her sister with the Point of Sale business had not been found.
“He said that the sister travelled and asked Habeebah to stand in for her but that someone invited her (the deceased) for a transaction and that she had since been missing.  It was incidented as a case of a missing person.
“He later came back again on Saturday and said that some people have contacted the sister who owned the PoS business and were demanding money, so he sent N30,000 into the Moniepoint account which we hope to use to track the receiver and then arrest those behind the criminal act.
“So what was paid was N30,000 and not N1m, I have the receipt and this is to help facilitate the tracking of those behind the criminal act.
“And we actually did the tracking to somewhere in Oke Egunya community, which is under Ibara Division, Abeokuta. We were there till 1am early Sunday morning until we went to rest a bit before continuing with the tracking.
“We were later informed on Sunday that the corpse of the young girl had been found at his father farm in Mile 6 and when we got there we discovered that the girl was raped before she was killed.”
Famobuwa explained further that a resident of the community said she saw a farm worker working for the father of the victim entering into the bush with the deceased but did not return with her.
According to him, when the worker was challenged, he said the girl was still busy on the farm and that she would join him later.
He said the farm worker who is a prime suspect had fled.
