Ganduje: South East marginalisation ‘self-created’; APC to win Edo, Ondo

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has stated that the perceived marginalisation of the South East is self-inflicted.

Speaking to journalists in Kano, Ganduje argued that the South East’s political influence is weakened by its fragmentation among different political parties.

“The South East political zone they are always claiming that they have been marginalised. But what we are telling them is that these marginalisations have been created by them. How can you have five states and be ruled by four political parties? What will be your political bargain? So we have introduced a new phenomenon where we are working very hard to ensure that we get more states from that zone and we want to start with Anambra.

“Already we have Ebonyi, Imo states, now we are encroaching into that zone to ensure that we capture most of the states. And if we get what we want we capture all the states,” he said.

Ganduje also expressed optimism about reclaiming Edo State in the upcoming election on 21st September.

“Our campaign is gaining momentum, and we are confident of recovering Edo, which we lost to the PDP due to internal disputes. Winning Edo would bring the APC’s total to 21 out of 36 states,” he said.

Regarding Ondo State, which is already under APC control, Ganduje confirmed that the party is preparing for the November election, following successful primaries and resolution of internal issues. “Next year, we will focus on Anambra, a state long governed by APGA, as part of our broader strategy,” he concluded.

In a related development, Ganduje announced that the APC is set to transfer its membership register from analogue to digital. He explained that this shift is part of the party’s broader strategy to remain active year-round and improve its operations at all levels.

Ganduje added that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) will meet on 12th September, with President Bola Tinubu, governors, and former presidents in attendance. The NEC meeting is expected to address several initiatives undertaken by the APC’s National Working Committee.
