Members of the National Assembly have been urged to introduce a bill that would constitutionally recognize the office of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the First Ladies of the 36 State Governors, and those at the 774 Local Government Councils across the country.
A group under the auspices of Nigeria’s First Project stressed the importance of recognizing the office of the First Ladies beyond just seasonal pet projects, advocating for their empowerment to undertake crucial roles that directly impact women nationwide.
Addressing a press conference in Kaduna on Monday, the National Coordinator of Nigeria’s First Project, Hon. Jonah Bonet, stated that the office of the First Ladies should be formally empowered.
He emphasized that this recognition is crucial for national progress and prosperity as he highlighted the commendable efforts of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Economic Empowerment Program.

He said the initiatives, including a N1.85 billion recapitalization grant for 37,000 beneficiaries nationwide and the recent disbursement of N50,000 each to these women, have been notable.
He noted that these efforts not only provide essential financial support but also empower women to become self-sufficient and independent.
He affirmed that the First Lady’s leadership and commitment to uplifting women’s lives warrant utmost support and constitutional recognition.
The group also expressed support for the wife of Kaduna State Governor, Hajiya Hafsat Uba Sani, praising her efforts in supporting women and children across the state.
Additionally, the group commended the military, particularly under the leadership of Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, for their neutrality and maturity in handling recent national protests.
