Three travellers were shot as gunmen ambushed three travelling vehicles along Osi/Obbo-Aiyegunle road in Kwara State on Friday.
The abductors reportedly abducted the 20 occupants inside the commercial vehicles on and forcefully matched them into the surrounding bush.
Three of the victims were said to have been shot when a rescue team comprising police, vigilantes and local hunters later engaged the bandits in a gun duel inside the bush.
The operation occurred around 3:00 am within the dense forest area between Obbo-Aiyegunle and Obbo-Ile.

The state police spokeswoman, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.
According to her, upon receipt of the distress call, the police in collaboration with other rescue teams swiftly mobilised and launched a thorough search operation.
“Three of the victims who sustained gunshot injuries on their legs during the ordeal have been promptly evacuated to a hospital for urgent medical attention.
“Through the concerted efforts of our police detectives, vigilantes and community members, the team successfully rescued the 20 victims.
“Our men are diligently combing the area, determined to bring the criminals to justice. That the police are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and travelers within Kwara State.”
She said the Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, assured the public that the search for the perpetrators was still ongoing.
“We commend the bravery and swift response of our officers, as well as the cooperation of the local vigilantes, which led to the successful rescue without any casualty among the victims.
“Further updates on this case will be communicated to the public as the investigation progresses.
“We urge the public to remain calm and vigilant, and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through our emergency lines,” she added.
