Federal poly Governing council, Ata Igala harp on technical education to transform society

The Chairman Governing Council (CGC) of the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, kogi state , Rt. Hon Adetope Ademiluyi has emphasized the need to focus on quality technical education in Polytechnics for it to serve as a panacea for the country’s industrial growth and development.

Hon. Ademiluyi handed out this advice yesterday at the inaugural sitting of the 13th Governing council meeting of the institution in Idah.

The newly inaugurated Governing Council chairman stressed the need for all hands to be on deck in order to work towards revamping the lost glory of the school to play its vital role in transforming the nation to a lofty industrial height.

He therefore urged the management of the institution to brace up for more reforms aimed at repositioning the Polytechnic to serve its traditional role as intended at conception.

While inaugurating the newly constituted council, the governing council chairman urged members to be committed to the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to improve the institution and better the society in this direction .

“President Tinubu is doing so much to improve the standard of education in the country. The only way Mr. President can succeed is for every one to rally round his administration”, he said.

Earlier, the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Dr Yahaya Baba Usman stated that the institution has made tremendous progress in academic and other field under the current leadership.

The Rector said the members of the governing council are men of proven integrity with wealth of experience, stressing that both the Staff and students of the school are poised to work with them for the development of the polytechnic.

“The past Councils contributed enormously to the growth and progress of the Polytechnic. However, the Polytechnic is still yearning for development. There are many problems to be fixed, as there are many needs to be met.

“The Polytechnic in recent times is adjudged the fastest growing Polytechnic in the sub Saharan African. But it is equally true that we operate with very learn finances.

” I have no doubt whatsoever that you fix our problems to the best of your ability with the hope that you will leave the Polytechnic better than you have met it”, he said.

However, the Ata Igala, HRM Alaji Mathew Opaluwa Ogwuche Akpa11 said that though the institution is classified as one of the second generation polytechnics, the level of its infrastructural and academic growth still leaves much to be desired to serve the purpose of its establishment.

“All forms of examination malpractices, ‘monetization’ of examination results, and certificate racketeering should be discouraged. Ensure that the quality of your graduates remains a pride to all stakeholders”, he said.

The Royal father therefore enjoined all to join hands with the new governing council team and Rector to uplift the infrastructural and academic standard of the Polytechnic that will benefit the society at large.

HRM assured of his continued support and co-operation in an attempt to move the Polytechnic to greater heights in academic standards and infrastructural development.

The Federal Polytechnic, Idah was established in 1977( 47 years ago); the newly inaugurated Governing Councils is the 13th and the present Rector remains the 8th on the roll.
