The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) results for school candidates.

A total of 1,805, 216 candidates from 22,229 secondary schools nationwide sat for the examination.

Meanwhile, the  council’s Nigerian head of national office, Dr. Amos J. Dangut, said no fewer than 215,267 candidates’ results were withheld due to examination malpractice.

Briefing newsmen in Lagos, Dangut gave the figure of the withheld results at 11.92 percent of the total of 1,805, 216 that sat for the exams.

While stating that the 2024 withheld results was 4.37 percent lower than the 16.29 percent recorded last year, he assured that withheld results would be released after a thorough investigation.

“The increasing use of cell phones in the examination hall, in spite of the existing ban, and organised cheating in some schools are other nagging issues. All the cases are being investigated, and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate Committee of the Council for consideration and final decisions.

“The committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates through their various schools in due course. Candidates affected by these decisions can now call for redress of their malpractice cases if they so wish,” he said.
