The Kebbi State Independent Election Commission (KIESEC) on Thursday that the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) withdrawal from the local government election scheduled to take place on August 31 this year in the state is not justifiable.
While addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, the electoral agency’s commissioner in charge of publicity, Muhammed Kaura, debunked the allegations by the PDP that the KIESEC chairman and other commissioners of the electoral body are card-carrying members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Kaura said the chairman and other appointed members of the electoral agency have been conducting the local government elections in the state since 2007, and they are not card-carrying members of the APC or any other party.
Recall that the PDP on Wednesday announced its withdrawal from the Kebbi State Local Government Election on the allegation of partisanship against the electoral commission’s officials.
“We have resolved to remain non-partisan in the election, and we assured all the participants that we would conduct free and fair elections,” he said.
