APC South-East Welcomes Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi

The recent defection of Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been welcomed by the party in the South East.

The party viewed the move as a significant boost for progressive politics in the region.

Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, the Zonal Chairman, highlighted the party’s achievements and assured that more individuals would join APC as the region recognizes its efforts, including the recent signing of the South East Development Commission Bill into law.

In response to the Labour Party’s call for the Senate President to declare the Imo East Senatorial District seat vacant, the Imo East Progressives Movement, led by Mr. Titus Opara, described the demand as baseless.

They argued that Senator Onyewuchi’s departure was justified due to the ongoing crisis within the Labour Party and that his previous electoral successes contradict claims of his failure.

The group urged the Labour Party to accept Onyewuchi’s defection and move on.

“We of the Imo East Progressives Movement are happy with the recent defection of Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi to the APC, this is in line with our desire for the Senator to be in sync with the Governor General, Hope Uzodinma and his efforts to take NdiIgbo back to the centre.”

“However, we were shocked when the Labour Party in the state, perhaps in their usual manner of showboating made a press statement where they accused Senator Onyewuchi of biting the fingers that fed him and made the spurious demand that his seat be declared vacant. Nothing can be more ridiculous than such.

“We, however, want to state that in line with the current crisis in which the Labour Party is presently entangled and enmeshed in, can Imo State Labour Party tell us which of the factions is the authentic faction of the party?

“Is it the one led by Calixthus Okaforor or the one led by Lamidi Apapa or the Nnewi Convention leadership which retained a Julius Abure or the National Transition Committee which is at odds with the Labour Party Constitution?

“It is common knowledge that once a party is in crisis those elected on its platform are free to defect, why is Labour Party expecting Senator Onyewuchi to remain in its fold when the party is in tatters?”
