36-yrs-old Ilorin national museum in deplorable condition, curator cries out

The Curator, National Commission for Museums and Monuments, Ilorin branch, Mrs Woleola Idebi, has lamented the poor state of the edifice.

Speaking over the weekend during a visit by the Nigeria Association of Tour Operators, Idebi called on the federal government to expedite its renovation.

According to her, visits by tourists to the 36-year-old museum have reduced drastically due to its deplorable condition.

“This structure was built in 1988 to protect our rich heritage and tradition and promote our national history. But we are not doing that.

“The museum is no longer attractive to woo tourists because of the current condition. The fences are falling apart, we do not have access to power supply and no chairs to sit on. I assumed office a week ago and I want to ensure the museum is visible to tourists, which prompted my speaking out.

“From the entrance, you can see it is not appealing, we need the government to renovate this museum”, she said.
