Edo gov’ship: APC demands Obaseki’s impeachment over ‘crisis’ comment

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the state House of Assembly to commence impeachment process against the governor, Godwin Obaseki, over his alleged threat to “burn down Nigeria.”

The state acting chairman of the party, Jarret Tenebe, made the call in a statement yesterday.

The APC said, “In the last 24 hours, Nigerians from all walks of life have been treated to a melodrama wherein the Edo State governor Mr Godwin Obaseki gloated like a villain in a video, threatening to burn down Nigeria, if the murderers of Inspectors Akor Onuh at the Benin City Airport are not arrested by the police.

The party also alleged that Governor Obaseki has armed Edo State Security Network (ESSN), and Public Work Volunteers (PUWOV) to Kill, maim and wound anyone that holds contrary views to his administration.

But reacting, Obaseki through his Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, denied the allegations, saying the APC is trying to negatively spin comments made by the governor.

Nehikhare said the governor had during a stakeholders’ meeting on Sunday said, “If a free and fair election is not allowed to hold sway in Edo State on September 21, it will trigger a major crisis in Nigeria.”
