Arewa traders warn members against hunger protests

The Arewa Traders Association of Nigeria, (ATAN), a traders’ union from the Northern Nigeria has dissociated itself from a planned nationwide protest against hunger and economic hardship in the country.

National president of the association, Alhaji Adamu Hassan, who made this known during a press briefing, Friday, in Abuja, described the planned exercise as unjustifiable, calling on members to shun anything capable of affecting their businesses.

He warned Nigerian youths to be wary of the danger associated with such protests, which according to him are being advocated by “Faceless nonentities that set to plunge the country into a gargantuan catastrophe for their selfish motive.’’

He recalled the ugly experience recorded during the last EndSARs protests, leading to loss of lives and properties.

He said, “We must not dare to repeat that terrible incident, which at the end of the day, we traders and other innocent Nigerians, mostly youth, often turn out to be losers in that kind of brigandage act.’’

The group hailed President Tinubu led administration, on the recent tax review on certain food items import, just as he congratulated the government and the National Labour Union, NLC on the final settlement on minimum wage.
