A herder has gunned down a suspected hoodlum who was attempting to rustle cows in Awawa community in Kwali Area Council of the FCT.
A vigilante, simply identified as Adamu, who confirmed the incident, said it happened on Saturday when two hoodlums invaded a Fulani settlement to rustle cows.
He said vigilantes were alerted about the incident on Monday and that they mobilised to the bush and discovered the decomposing corpse of one of the hoodlums, adding that the other one was matcheted, arrested and handed over to the police.
He explained that, “The hoodlums were escaping with some cows not knowing that one of the herders was trailing them with a gun. When they arrived at a farm and decided to stop and roast maize, the herder shot and killed one of them.”
Similarly, another suspected hoodlum was also reportedly shot dead when he attempted to rustle cows in Rugan Madaki, near Achido village, in Abaji Area Council of the FCT.
City & Crime learnt that the incident happened on Monday around 12am.
A resident, who simply identified himself as Jacob, said, “As I am talking to you, the hoodlum’s corpse is still there. In fact, some residents who have farms around the area couldn’t go to their farms today due to fear.”
The spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said she would enquire about the incidents.
