NDLEA intercepts cocaine, opioids concealed in shoes, clothes

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted quantities of cocaine and other opioids such as tramadol, pentazocine injection, morphine sulphate and ketamine injection concealed in the soles of shoes, clothes and other items meant for shipping to the United States (US), United Kingdom (UK) and Cyprus.

Spokesman of NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday in a statement, said that while no less than 250g of cocaine going to Cyprus was hidden in the soles of custom-made shoes, over 5kg of opioids heading to the US and UK were discovered in clothes and other household items being facilitated by some courier firms in Lagos.

He said, “In the same vein, a consignment of 440g of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, coming from Canada to Lagos was intercepted by operatives in one of the logistics companies.”

Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives in Edo State on Wednesday intercepted a vehicle marked, Abuja GWA 273 DD, at the Ewu Junction in Esan Central LGA following credible intelligence.

The luggage of one of the occupants, Aminu Abdullahi (32), was searched and found to contain custard containers in which 3,000 pills of tramadol were buried in the custard powder.

In his statement, the suspect claimed the drugs were bought in Onitsha, Anambra State, and that he was taking them to the Mararaba area near the FCT, to sell.

In another operation, operatives on Thursday raided the Ohen Forest, Abudu area of Edo, and destroyed 5,429.751kg of hemp on 2.918 hectares and arrested four suspects: Godday Ariye (37), Friday Okafor (59), Obinna Nwosu (48) and Yusuf Adamu (27).

Similarly, 300kg of the same substance was recovered from Uzzeba Obi Camp in Owan West LGA, Edo State, when NDLEA officers raided the location on Saturday.

In Ogun State, operatives, on Tuesday, recovered a total of 2,865kg of hemp in Afami Ibese, while the suspected owner, Umar Ibese, escaped.
