Detectives from Ijora Badia Police Division of Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 37-year-old man, Afeez Olayiwola, who was allegedly found to be in possession of a bag containing fake US dollars.
The suspect was arrested during a raid on some lotto game shops allegedly used by criminal gangs to hide weapons.
Although the suspect claimed not to be the owner of the bag, he admitted that it might have been kept in his shop by fraudsters.
Lagos State police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspect was arrested on July 7, 2024, based on credible intelligence received from some members of the public.
He said, “During interrogation, the suspect claimed to be an agent of Baba Ijebu Lotto. The search of his lotto stand led to the discovery of a bag containing currency suspected to be fake dollars. However, the suspect denied ownership of the bag but mentioned that some set of people used the fake dollars to defraud people. Effort is on to arrest fleeing suspects.”
