Aisha Falke, founder of Northern Hibiscus (NH), has explained the motive behind her new platform, NH2.0.
Speaking on Friday in Abuja at the official launch of NH2.0, Falke said the platform was unveiled to create a space for Northern cultural heritage to coexist with modern business opportunities.
This, according to her, would empower individuals and businesses alike to reach their full potential.
“The resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of the Northern Nigerian community have always inspired me.
“With Northern Hibiscus, we are creating a space where our rich cultural heritage can coexist with modern business opportunities, empowering individuals and businesses alike to reach their full potential,” she said.
Professor Baba Yusuf Abubakar, husband of Aisha Falke, advocated for men to encourage their wives to achieve their dreams.
Abubakar, a former Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), said: “Globally, women are supported and encouraged because a lot of them are talented. But usually, they are not allowed to do their best.
“I have seen it firsthand because Aisha is somebody that I knew was intelligent; she has the potential, but she needed encouragement and support to bring out that potential, so I supported her over the years. The journey was not very smooth; there were ups and downs.
“I kept encouraging her. That’s where we are because I feel that when women are empowered, they support the family. Even if the man is the breadwinner, he will be supported by the woman, and some of the issues that have to do with children, she can handle.
“There are issues of mental health that will depress women when they are not doing anything, but when they are engaged and doing something productive, they get excited, and it helps them mentally to be able to take care of the home. Children and even husbands will be happier if they have women who are doing something and helping the family generally.
“That is why I am supporting women in terms of entrepreneurship, in terms of doing what they think they have potential to do.”
