Residents of the Kado Kuchi area in Kado District of Abuja in the FCT have, for the past few weeks, faced acute water shortage as a result of faulty pipes.
The residents said the situation had thrown the community into a crisis as they now scouted for water from any available source.
A resident, Aminu Yaro, said that all efforts made to get the pipes fixed yielded no result.
He said, “A major area in Abuja has been disconnected from the FCT Water Board supply due to a damaged pipe for over three weeks now. The pipe connects Kado Kuchi, Mabushi and Banex. These areas have been without water for almost a month and all our pleas have not yielded any result.”

He noted that, “The Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) can resolve this issue in 24 hours. Even the FCT Water Board management are helpless as major repairs as such will have to go through FCDA, which involves filing reports and other bureaucratic processes before approval is given and a contractor assigned to execute work.’’
He further said that the officials of the FCT Water Board claimed that the pipe was vandalized.
He added that the members of the community were ready to fix the pipe if given the approval.
When City & Crime visited the area on Thursday, a resident, who gave her name as Mercy, pleaded with the relevant authorities to come to their aid and fix the pipe to enable them to get potable water.
She said, “For the past three weeks we have been suffering; getting water has been difficult. I have been spending a lot of money buying water from vendors. They should please come to our aid.”
The General Manager of the FCT Wate Board, was said not to be on seat when City & Crime visited his office but senior officer with board confirmed the situation, saying the pipe was vandalized.
He said efforts were on to fix the vandalized pipe, assuring that it will be fixed once an approval is gotten from the FCDA.
