Police in Kano have rescued a two and half year-old girl simply identified as Amina who was abducted by a neighbour, Zakariyya Muhammad in Sabuwar Ganduje area of the state.
The suspect allegedly demanded N2 million ransom before he can release the little girl from captivity.
A statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the incident was reported by a resident of Sabuwar Gandu Kwarin Barka Quarters, and the Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, raised a team of Anti-kidnapping Squad directing them to rescue the girl within 24 hours, and to ensure the arrest of the suspect.
Police said intelligence-driven operations, led to the arrest of the suspect, Zakariyya Muhammad (22) , found to be a resident of Sabuwar Gandu Kwarin Barka Quarters.
The statement said the suspect confessed to have singlehandedly committed the offence and led the detectives to where the girl was kept hostage.
Amina was rescued unhurt and was rushed to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano where she was examined, found healthy, and later discharged.
The Commissioner of Police appealed to the residents to report criminal activities to the police to help create a safer environment for all.
