Akande Urges Focus on Improving Lives Amidst Political Grandstanding Against Tinubu

Laolu Akande, former Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, has called on Nigerian politicians to set aside political grandstanding and concentrate on improving the lives of the citizens.

Speaking on Friday’s episode of Inside Sources with Laolu Akande on Channels TV, Akande addressed the growing political tensions and allegations of discrimination against the North in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

“Lately, there have been reports of claims and counter-claims about the relationship between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the political North. Some commentators like Senator Shehu Sani allege that there are already plans to unseat President Tinubu in 2027 because of claims of discrimination against the North,” Akande noted.

Akande emphasized the efforts made by key government officials, such as the Minister of State for Defense, the Minister of Defense, and Vice President Kashim Shettima, in defending the administration against these accusations. They have collectively argued that President Tinubu has been fair and just in his dealings with all regions of the country.

“We would like to add that it is too early to conclude that the Tinubu administration is discriminating against the North or any part of the country in particular. As the Vice President, Senator Shettima said, such claims are being championed only ‘to cause disaffection’. Now, we don’t need disaffection now,” Akande stated, urging the public to refrain from jumping to conclusions.

He further acknowledged that while issues exist within the polity, it is imperative for Nigerians to prioritize national unity and social justice. Akande highlighted the need for patience and support for the current administration as it strives to prove its commitment to equitable development across the nation.

“No doubt, there are issues in the polity and there will always be. But, well-meaning Nigerians must focus on the unity of our country and the pursuit of social justice for all Nigerians. Let us allow the administration to show itself. This is certainly no time for political grandstanding,” he said.

Akande’s remarks underscore the administration’s plea for patience and unity amidst growing political tensions.

He called on Nigerians to give the Tinubu administration the opportunity to demonstrate its dedication to fairness and the overall progress of the country.

By advocating for national unity and social justice, Akande aims to shift the focus from political bickering to constructive dialogue and collective progress.
