Company clears air over worker’s death

The Management of KAM Steel Integrated Company has cleared the air over death of a worker, Yahaya Ibrahim, who died after slipping on the engine roller at the company along the Sagamu-Ogijo expressway in Ogun State.

Daily Trust had reported that the incident occurred on Saturday night after the 27-year-old man slipped on the rotating machine and got entangled by some parts of the roller engine.

Insiders said the victim was crushed to death by the machine after a fruitless effort to save him by other workers.

The management in a statement made available to our correspondent on Monday said the deceased was
the staff of one of the Contractors to the company, and he was not operating the machine at the time of the incident.

According to the organization, the incident which happened late in the evening (on Saturday) at about 9.12 pm was promptly reported to the DPO of the area.

In a statement, the Head of Human Capital of the steel firm, Tunde Badejo, described the incident as purely industrial in nature involving only the deceased, pointing out that “no one else was involved.”

He also clarified that “there is an ongoing thorough investigation of the incident with possible post mortem report to situate the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

While commiserating with the family of the deceased, the Company “is appealing to the public to please ignore any hearsay unverified report pending the outcome of the investigation and possible postmortem report on the incident.”
