Cult festival: No cause for alarm, police assure Kwara residents

The Kwara State Police Command has assured of their safety and encouraged them to go about their daily activities with confidence following concerns over the annual 7/7 cultists’ festival to be held this month.

City & Crime reports that at least two people were killed recently by suspected cultists ahead of the festival.

The spokeswoman of the command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi (DSP), on Sunday, said the command had implemented comprehensive strategies to prevent a recurrence of such activities.

She said, “In the light of past incidents observed on the 7th of July, with cult-related violence, we have intensified surveillance measures and increased the presence of visible policing across all key areas in the state.

“Our officers will be conducting thorough patrols and security checks today (Sunday), the 7th of July, tomorrow, and thereafter to detect and deter any suspicious activities.

“We have deployed additional resources, including tactical teams and intelligence units, to ensure a swift and effective response to any security threats.”

She urged all citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station or through the emergency lines: 0812 527 5046 and 0703 206 9456.
