The Kano State government has disbursed cheques totaling over N1.9 billion to the Chairmen of the Community Re-orientation Committee (CRC) for renovation of primary school classrooms across all 44 local government areas.
The governor also set aside the two billion, nine hudrend and twenty five thousand, one hundred and fourty naira for construction of additional classrooms in public primary schools.
According to the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, this is a strategic move to bolster security and safeguard public educational facilities.
The state has also initiated the immediate employment of 17,600 security guards, with a minimum of 400 guards allocated to each local government areas to protect public schools.
He said investment in the education sector reflects Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s unwavering commitment to realizing his vision of declaring a state of emergency in the education system.
He emphasized during a meeting with CRC chairmen at the Government House that investing in education is a pivotal step towards ensuring that quality education is accessible to every school-age child in Kano.
Acknowledging the vital role played by CRCs in fostering social integration and enhancing enrollment and attendance rates in schools, Governor Yusuf reiterated the government’s pledge to empower community leaders to take ownership of the education system and protect public infrastructure.
He called upon the CRC committees to collaborate closely with stakeholders within their jurisdictions and seek guidance from the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for technical support in project implementation.
Furthermore, Governor Yusuf mandated the CRC chairmen to ensure that all new classroom blocks bear the inscription “Kwankwasiyya/Gida-Gida” as a tribute to Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso’ contributions to public education in Kano.
Highlighting the achievements of his administration in various sectors over the past year, Governor Yusuf urged all stakeholders to harmonize their efforts towards creating a future built on a foundation of quality education for present and future generations.
