The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has denied fixing N1 million as the cost of purchasing its form to contest for chairmanship position in the forthcoming local government election.
In a notice signed by the party’s chairman of the finance subcommittee of the Local Government Electoral Committee, Abdulganiyu Kure, seen by our correspondent, the APC announced that N1 million was for chairmanship and N250,000 for counsellorship positions.
It stated that the sale of forms would close on June 25, adding that it would remain free for women and people living with disabilities.
Daily Trust observed that the issue of price raised some dust among party members.
But speaking with our correspondent, the APC chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi said, “The party is yet to fix any amount for forms. Kure was not in the best position to speak for the party. We have even suspended the sale of forms now. We will let you know when we are done with it.”
Meanwhile, the publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olushola Olusegun Adewara, said expression of interest and nomination forms for the chairmanship would be sold at N20,000 and N80,000 respectively, making N100,000, while those for the counsellorship would cost N5,000 and N20,000, totaling N25,000.
He said that to encourage gender inclusion, female and physically challenged aspirants would pay 50 per cent of the rates.
