Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has been elected as the Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum.
Prof Charles Soludo of Anambra was also elected as Vice Chairman.
They took the decision after a meeting held at the Presidential lodge, Ibara housing, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Sixteen governors attended the meeting.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos and Chairman of Southwest Governors’ Forum, announced Abiodun’s emergence after a closed door meeting which lasted for about five hours.
Other Governors who have arrived are: Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Alex Otti (Abia), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Charles Soludo (Anambra) and Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Peter Mbah (Enugu) and Douye Diri (Bayelsa).
Also on ground are, Deputy Governors, Chinyere Ekomaru (Imo) and Monday Onyeme (Delta), Olayide Adelami (Ondo).
Abiodun replaced late Rotimi Akeredolu, former Governor of Ondo State, who was the chairman of the forum until his demise.
The forum has not elected a new chairman after Akeredolu’s death in December, 2023.
